Researching Marching Bands

While researching for my latest novel, I watched several marching band You Tube videos. There’s a scene where my main character Riley goes to a college football game to watch her friend play in the marching band. Her reaction watching the band is important, and though only a couple paragraphs long, I wanted a realistic description of the band. I’ve only been to one college game in my life, and to be honest, I don’t remember watching the band. Nor do I watch college football on TV. So over to You Tube I went. The band Riley’s watching is from a smaller school so it wouldn’t be anything like the video below, but I watched this one of Ohio State’s band several times. It’s freaking fabulous. There’s a dance routine mixed in—this could be the reason I liked it so much—but whatever…
